Yes, I made the mistake, AGAIN, of posting in a political forum.
Apparently, one should NOT suggest that the UK sometimes have neo-imperialist policies. Or remind them that their imperial history does, like it or not, color present-day events.
*sigh*
I see what some people were saying (I was going in and out of the discussion because of work and I really should have been more careful to be consistent in my posts). I can understand why this would be frustrating when someone is debating with me.
OTOH, I have to wonder why it is so hard for other people to admit *their* failings, including the fact that rudeness and an agressive tone add nothing to the discussion.
So yeah, no more

Many British people are in complete denial about the effects of imperialism and that the rest of us should just move in with things and stop blaming them for our problems
There was that whole hoohaa about the "Wind that shakes the barley" a few years ago where various parts of the British Press decried it as an ode to terrorism rather the seeing that there was a valid commentary there on the effects and tragedy of war.
Dont get me wrong, I live in Britain, I respect most of the British people I live and work with, they are good people, but there is a small proportion of people who cannot admit that maybe British imperialism and colonialism had negative effects for those people they colonized
There seems to be a complete disconnect about this history, and about how this *still* has negative effects on those who were colonized in the past.
